I have carried around this collection of essays from R.W. Emerson since I was in high school. It has made every move with me, from my parents house as a kid, to college dorms, to city apartments, to my home now. I LOVE THIS BOOK. His essays feel like really good movies or songs, they conjure up beautiful images, and they are so darn smart. I know , NERD ALERT, but seriously, he wrote for me, the kind of person that secretly listens to Taylor Swift on Pandora, that isn’t afraid to tell you that I watched Titanic so many times that the tape wore out, that I JUST LOVE Lars and the Real Girl… whatever. If you get that? You would get the Emerson thing.
Anyway, he lived in the now… really well. And that’s something I am learning to do. I heard from everybody to travel while you can before kids. I heard that I was going to have to take a 2o year hiatus from seeing and doing things that I wanted to do in order to watch Duff McStuffins or whatever for the foreseeable future. That just didn’t sit right. How hard can it be to take a baby with us? Besides, don’t we want to raise her to be a well-rounded, awesome human? It all pointed to….taking baby with us!
“Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is God’s handwriting..” Emerson would have done it…
I’d love to meet you on twitter here.
